Unanimous resolutions passed by the Executive Committee of the Aligarh Muslim University Teachers’ Association (AMUTA) at its meeting held on March 06, 2012 at 8:00 PM
1. This meeting unequivocally condemns the increasing incidents of violence on the campus. We are of opinion that violence should be dealt with and put down firmly; the Association, on its part, is ready to extend necessary cooperation to any sincere effort to resolve the crisis that brings the University on the path to normalcy. We are anguished and express our sympathies with the injured students, at the same time we appeal to everyone to remain calm and act with restraint, as at the end of the academic session any disruption results in academic loss. An essential step however, is to conduct an enquiry into these recurring incidents to identify the causes, their perpetuators and agents.
2. The members after considering the copies of letters sent by some teachers of the University Polytechnic condemned the incidents of harassment of teachers at the hands of the Principal, we warn that we shall not tolerate such behavioural lapses by any functionary. We appeal to the University administration to resolve the matter.
3. Some Readers have been redesignated as Associate Professors from 1.1.2006 or the date they were promoted as Reader whichever is later, others have applied to the University to extend the same benefit to them. The Association demands that this should be expedited and the benefit extended to all.
4. The members view with serious concern the unfortunate episode at the Ajmal Khan Tibbya College . We request our colleagues to keep students away from teachers’ interpersonal interaction and appeal to the students to be not misled to interfere in teachers’ issues.
5. We are alarmed at the reports that the powers of the Chairman of theNational Commission for Minority Educational Institutions (NCMEI) have been taken away, this in our opinion is a retrograde step, we therefore demand the restoration of the powers immediately.
6. Convene an Emergent GB meeting on Mar 10,2012 at 7.00 PM to discuss some unresolved issues.( Notice issued separately)
