Report on Activities and Invitation to a Meeting
The Relay Hunger Strike entered its sixth day today, with Mr. Jamshed Siddiqui and Dr. Mushtaq A. Zargar sitting on hunger strike from 9.00 am to 8.00 pm. A large number of teachers visited the dharna site despite today being a very hot day as well as a holiday.
A delegation of AMUTA under the leadership of the President, Prof. Abdul Qaiyum, went to Delhi today i.e.17.05.2011, to meet and apprise important political leaders of the situation in the University and the rationale for our demands, towards which both the Congress led UPA Govt. in Delhi, and the Vice Chancellor in Aligarh are not paying any heed.
Some of the leaders the delegation met, included the General Secretary of the CPI Mr. A.B.Bardhan, who has promised to meet the President of India tomorrow, Mr. Shoeb Iqbal, Delhi M.L.A. and some other prominent members of different political parties. All of them expressed their support for our cause and our demands and promised to use their resources to help us.
The delegation also met a number of senior journalists of the print and the electronic media, who have promised to visit Aligarh to get our point of view, which has not been properly projected till now.
The delegation also met the Office bearers of FEDCUTA, who have promised to come to Aligarh on May19, 2011 at 11.00 am to meet AMUTA members. The five member delegation shall be led by the FEDCUTA President Dr. Aditya Narayan Mishra, who is also the President of DUTA, and shall include the General Secretary of FEDCUTA Prof. Tabreiz Alam, President Allahabad University Teachers’ Association Prof. Ram Kishore Shastri, and other members from sister Associations under the umbrella of FEDCUTA.
The Action Committee has already decided to give a call for a meeting of members of AMUTA at 11:00 am on Thursday, May 19, 2011, to apprise them of the developments so far.
Members are requested to attend.
