AMUTA Programme of Action till May 24, 2011
A meeting of the AMUTA Action Committee was held on May 20, 2011 at 3:00 P.M. The members discussed the progress of Dharna and Relay Hunger Strike over the last week and expressed satisfaction at the response it is getting from the members of the Association.
The members noted that a one hour meeting in Delhi has engaged the attention of the Vice-Chancellor for three days now. This shows the concern he has for the normal and smooth functioning of the University. AMUTA is on Dharna and Relay Hunger Strike for nearly three weeks, two teachers under the banner of the AMU Anti-corruption Forum are on indefinite hunger strike since 16.5.2011, their health condition has deteriorated and is critical yet except for threats and criticism and protestations of innocence and of teachers disturbing peace, the Vice-Chancellor and his administration have been indifferent to the crises of confidence afflicting the University community. He has the time to hold Selection Committees for Assistant Registrars, attend meetings at Delhi and stay in 5-star comfort there without giving a thought to the problems of teachers and students. Hundreds of students are staying outside the campus, but are still not being allowed to stay in their hostels on the instructions of a very insensitive top administration. (these students reached Aligarh on getting the news of reopening w.e.f. May 13, 2011).
The Action Committee appeals to the members of AMUTA to help in carrying out the following programme of action:
1. Get an effigy made of “corruption” to be burnt in a day or two.
2. Members of the Action Committee to visit Departments, Faculties and Colleges to mobilize opinion and seek feedback and chalk out a plan of action.
3. To wear black arm bands as a mark of protest on a date to be decided in consultation with teachers.
4. Organize a press meet at Delhi Press Club/Constitution Club to publicise our demands.
5. Teachers to assemble at the Staff Club on Tuesday, May 24, 2011 at 7:30 P.M. for a candle light march, which shall pass through the Victoria Gate, Strachey Hall and shall end at Mazar of Sir Syed Ahmad Khan at the University mosque.
