Jantar Mantar Handout

The AMU Teachers’ Association is on dharna to press for the removal of Prof. P.K. Abdul Azis, Vice-Chancellor of Aligarh Muslim University for his financial misdeeds, incompetences, anti-university policies and scant regard for law.
Prof. P.K. Abdul Azis’s latest misadventure is the closing down of AMU sine die on April 29, 2011 after a group clash on the campus which could have easily been controlled if the University functionaries were not playing favourites. This closure at the time when examinations were about to end and entrance examinations were going on has jeopardized the career of thousands of students. Moreover, the totally baseless and malicious attempt to justify their inept administration by alleging the presence of arms at the University campus displays their total lack of commitment to the University. This has been further accentuated by their refusal to allow internal students access to their hostel rooms when they come for the entrance test. A hostler studies in his room and provides this as his/her correspondence address, so how would he/she study or know about Hall Tickets, Admit Cards or call letters and final selection letters from outside the University, however the Vice-Chancellor refuses to listen to reason.
Earlier also in 2007 and in 2009 the University had been closed sine die, crores were spent on high-tech security equipment like CCTV, etc. but they appear to be dysfunctional. On both the earlier occasions the Vice-Chancellor and his administration were given a free hand to do what they wanted as far as disciplinary actions were concerned, and thereafter the administration has been claiming complete cleansing of the hostels. Therefore, cannot now be claimed that arms are stock-piled and anti-social elements are present.
The other reasons for seeking his removal are:
1.  He was indicted on 12 counts, including financial mismanagement and administrative lapses, by the Finance Inspection Wing of the Govt. of Kerala, before he came to Aligarh. The Govt. recommended for ‘strict disciplinary action’ against Prof. P.K. Abdul Azis, Vice-Chancellor, CUSAT.
2. At AMU the Audit Report of Comptroller and Auditor General, Allahabad, exposed many of his financial irregularities and decisions to be extremely irresponsible and wasteful, and their adverse comments are available on record. They also did not accept any justification offered by the University.
3.  The Visitorial enquiry constituted after a series of complaints indicted him, but the MHRD is yet to forward it to the Visitor.
4.  He is more interested in AMU Centres especially in his home state at Mallapuram than the University diverting large funds for the purpose depriving the University.
5.  He had desperately used University resources and his position to wriggle out and has not only become a liability but a threat to the University.

We, therefore, demand that Prof. P.K. Abdul Azis be immediately sacked from the Vice-Chancellorship of AMU.
