Unanimous resolution passed by the General Body of Aligarh Muslim University Teachers’ Association (AMUTA) in its emergent meeting held on May 1, 2011 at 11:00 am

This emergent meeting of the General Body of AMUTA, unequivocally condemns the violent incidents over the recent past, especially the last few days and demands instituting of a comprehensive two member inquiry, including the Secretary of AMUTA, into the whole issue to fix responsibility and suggest means to prevent such occurrences in future. The inquiry report shall be submitted within one week and should form the basis of immediate action.
In view  of the tutional loss and the career of thousands of students of the university, the General Body further demands the immediate withdrawal of the illegal order, passed without due procedure, for sine die closure of the university. The university should immediately draw up a programme for the normalization of the academic schedule to ensure timely completion of examinations and admissions.
The General Body is of the view that firm handling of the so-called “group clash” would have nipped the problem in the bud and prevented deterioration in the situation. In view of the inept handling of various incidents of violence, the General Body is of the strong view that the Proctor should immediately resign, owning up moral and functional responsibility for the deterioration of the law and order on the campus.
The General Body further feels any change in the Controller’s Office at this juncture would disturb and destabilize the process of that forthcoming examinations and admissions and therefore insists that no change should take place in the Controller’s Office.
The General Body demands that the statutory Summer Vacations of the teachers shall not be curtailed and any change in the academic calendar approved by the Academic Council shall not be without first consulting the Executive Committee of AMUTA.
The General Body feels that the Vice Chancellor by not immediately resuming his functions and returning to the campus primarily reflects his indifference towards the University. Further, with the submission of the Interim Report of the AMU Fact Finding Committee, constituted by the President of India in her capacity as the Visitor of the University, indicting Prof P K Abdul Azis of financial irregularities, the General Body demands that the Ministry of HRD should not further shield a corrupt Vice Chancellor by deliberate delay in initiating legal procedures against him. The General Body feels and asserts that not initiating action against Prof Azis makes clear the indifference of the Congress led UPA Central Government towards the plight of the Muslims in obtaining quality education by ensuring that a competent Vice Chancellor with financial integrity is at the helm of affairs of the University after the immediate removal  of the present  incumbent, Prof. P.K. Abdul Azis

The General Body further demands:
1.     withdrawal of the illegal and unwanted order for sine die closure of the University within 24 hours (i.e. by 4.00PM tomorrow the 2nd May 2011) otherwise the AMUTA will be compelled to stage a dharna and adopt other agitational means till the said order is withdrawn.
2.     immediate removal of the Proctor of the University for his failure to prevent firing on University students from inside his office.

The General Body further resolves to constitute an Action Committee authorized to decide and take action on its behalf with regard to compliance of the above resolution comprising Prof Razaullah Khan, Prof Akhlaq Ahmed, Prof. Naeem Ahmad Khan, Dr Mohd Shahid, Dr Jamshed Siddiqui, Dr Tariq Islam, Dr. (Hafiz) Mohd Ilyas , Dr. Shadab Bano, Dr Ajay Bisaria, Dr Madhiur Rehman Suhaib, Dr. Mohammed Naved Khan Dr. Nafees Ahmad Ansari and the members of the Executive Committee of AMUTA.
All members of AMUTA are requested to reach the Dharna site at the Staff Club at 4.00pm on May 2, 2011
